THE FANTASTICKS

Richard Chamberlain

Richard Chamberlain

In 1972, Richard chose to star for five weeks in the charming but innocuous long-running musical "The Fantasticks." This was his first musical after the disappointment of "Breakfast At Tiffany's" in 1967. He starred in the production on the 14th December 1972 at the Arlington Park Theatre in Chicago. Richard played the role of the narrator, singing and dancing in front of seven hundred people every night for five weeks. Richard said of the part: "I went back and did "The Fantasticks" just to see if I could do a musical, and now I don't think that's what I want to do. It was frivolous and not very rewarding, like eating too much dessert. I wasn't tired enough when it was all over. I like to be tired."
