Post 194 Thank You
Thank you to Richard Chamberlain for his honesty and for his courage. I admire him for his willingness to share his thoughts on life and living. His sexual preferences are one tiny aspect of his life. His willingness to speak from the heart to the heart is what enables each of us to learn about living and being. We all hold such potential for learning and for teaching each other when we open up to ourselves and to each other. He has shared something special through his book and his recent speaking engagements. Our outer lives present aspects of ourselves we want the world to see. He has shared an intimate view of his inner life that has touched me deeply. My thanks to Richard Chamberlain for continually seeking the truth and for helping the rest of us in that same journey.

RE Thank You
Richard has taught me so much through his book. About love, self, and God. I agree with you, Mary, that we all learn so much from each other when we open up our hearts to love, and to different ideas and views. After meeting Richard this summer, I have seen first hand how truly relaxed and happy he is. He posed for pictures, signed countless autographs. He was just so sweet! As he has said, he couldn't "come out" any sooner, because he thought he would lose his appeal as a leading man. To all of us, his fans, he has not lost anything. We all still love him as we did before. On stage and screen, Richard is such a moving dramatic actor and is also talented at comedy as well. While watching the play in Stockbridge this summer, I was moved to tears. I hope he continues to share his gift with us in the future. I thank him for all the years of entertainment he has given us. Let's cross our fingers that "The Stillborn Lover" comes to New York in the near future! And perhaps he'll start on another book to teach us once again about life and ourselves. I wish Martin and Richard all the best that life can give them. Betty in Virginia

Too bad he had to wait so long to come out. I still love him gay or straight. He's a great, gorgeous actor. Wonderful and enjoyable to watch. Can you believe he and Larry King are the same age. Post 191 Chamberlain Fans Website Drawing
WEBSITE CONTEST Our fan club is in the process of building our own website. I am happy to announce the first of what will be many (I hope) contests at our new website. Each member of our group who submits a review or essay about one of Richard's performances will be entered in the Chamberlainfans Essay Contest. Each review will earn you one entry in the drawing for prizes. For example, you submit ten reviews and you have ten chances of winning. AND you can win more than once. If we have a good turnout I will be adding other prizes. All essays will appear in the Review section of the website that will be open to the public. So tell everybody about your favorites of Richard's performance in ANYTHING: stage, screen, TV shows, miniseries. Why you like (or don't like it, even) what you think about it and why other people should watch it. For example, if you like one particular episode of Dr. Kildare or Island Son, write about it or about the whole series. For example: Tyger Tyger episode of Dr. Kildare, The Sound of Music, Richard's Sword Fighting in the Three Musketeers, etc. Prize: Poster from the Video release of Shogun. A rare collectible. (A bit worn and creased from being folded but Richard looks gorgeous.) RULES: All submissions can be as long as you like but they must be at least 100 words. They must be in your original words. You must be a member of our group to submit a review: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chamberlainfans The first drawing will take place after the debut of Chamberlainfans website. I will announce other prizes as we go on. Geri

Post 188 Richard Chamberlain memories
Hi, I have loved Richard Chamberlain for 40 years now. When I was 12 years old I watched Dr. Kildare every week. I joined his fan club back then and he was my first celebrity crush. My dad bought me a copy of the record he made back then. Many years ago (by then I was married and did not have the record any longer)I mentioned to my husband that I would love to find the record again. He called around town and found the record. Listening to it after so many years brought back terrific memories to me. I would love to hear from other fans of Richard. I would also like to hear from people who have written to Richard. Please write to me at brooky41@aol.com

Post 187 "All the Winters That Have Been"
I have been on a quest for the past 2 weeks. My mother and I absolutely adore Richard and have watched and re-watched most of his movies and mini-series either on TV, VHS or DVD. My quest is to find the movie, "All the Winters That Have Been" either on VHS or DVD. The book was written in 1995 by Evan Maxwell and the movie was filmed and released as a "made for TV movie" in 1997. It first aired on the Lifetime Movie Network on Thursday Aug. 7, 1997 and then at a later date on the Hallmark station. The only way that it would be on VHS or DVD is if someone recorded it off of one of these two stations, and will allow me a copy. My mother and I both read the book and then never got to see the movie. I have contacted Lifetime and Hallmark and left messages on the message boards there.....to no avail thus far. I will not have a problem compensating someone for their time and efforts spent on getting me a copy of "All the Winters That Have Been", starring Richard Chamberlain as Dane Corvin and his co-star was Karen Allen.....Lamont Johnson was the Director. Please message me or email me at jrp1jnt@netscape.net . This would truly be an early birthday and Christmas present for my mother and myself.......the best part being that we will sit and watch it together and remember Richard and the great actor/man that he will always be!! Thank You In Advance, Janet Poole

Post 185 New Richard Chamberlain U.K. Magazine

There was a rare appearance of Richard Chamberlain in a U.K. magazine this weekend.
Playing it straight: How Hollywood favourite Richard Chamberlain broke a million female hearts
Very brief abstracts: "No one will ever look as good in a cassock as Richard Chamberlain. Maybe it is the lean figure, or the beatific smile, but he somehow seems built for ecclesiastical garments. So it is a thrill when he greets me, if not in a cassock, then at least in a robe - a white towelling gown...", "If I kick the bucket, Martin will have to sell our home in Hawaii to pay the duties."

Post 184 Berkshire
I was pleased to see the final performance of "The Stillborn Lover" and thought it was great. I had a brief opportunity to meet Richard after the show, although our conversation was rudely interupted by a group of ladies who had already taken countless pictures and Richard's time. Apparently they were unaware that other people would like the opportunity and Richard has a life to lead as well. It's a shame that "fans" such as this force people like Mr. Chamberlain to be less open and public than they might like. However, for the brief moment or two that I had to talk with him he was so very gracious. Worth the trip. PS-Lots of emails about the Berkshire Festival-don't forget to support Darren and the website!

Post 177 Works of Nana Veary?
In his memoir, Mr. Chamberlain mentioned several examples of the wisdom of a Hawaiian woman named Nana Veary & a work entitled "Change We Must." I have not been able to find that title on Amazon.com, nor an author with her name. Would Mr. Chamberlain, Martin or anyone reading this message know where I might be able to find "Change We Must," if it is still in print, or any of the works of Ms. Veary? Also, I wish to thank and commend Mr. Chamberlain for his open, honest and moving memoir. Both Mr. Chamberlain and Martin are very lucky to have found each other again in this lifetime, assisting each other on the path in companionship and enlightenment. My very best wishes to both of these fine, outstanding men.

Post 172 Richard in THE STILLBORN LOVER
I had the privilege of seeing Richard perform in THE STILLBORN LOVER on preview and opening nights. The play is VERY complex, but Richard was absolutely wonderful. The scenes between Harry Raymond (Richard) and his wife, Marion (Lois Nettleton) are truly some of the best the play offers. There was a party on the grounds of the Berkshire Theatre Festival (BTF) after the opening night performance and Richard very graciously greeted fans, critics and BTF staff, signed copies of his book, and posed for countless photos. I had the pleasure of speaking to Richard for a few minutes. When I left the party after an hour, Richard and Martin were still "working the crowd!" They both looked so happy!

And his performance in the Berkshire Theatre Festival is, I am sure, equally gifted. As a huge fan, I so appreciate this website and continue to support it. But let's remember that a website does not run itself. Darren does a great job and has no financial backing for this other than donations of folks who visit the website. If you, like me, appreciate the work, next time you visit or post a message or sign the guest book, take a minute to donate to the upkeep of this great website-I would hate to see it go away. Post 169 The Lady's Not For Burning, and random ramblings.
First, I'll comment that this is a pretty neat site. Does Mr Chamberlain actually read the board? (It seems unlikely, but, if so, um... hi; are we allowed to erect small shrines to you? *g*) My main reason for writing is that I desperately want to get my hands on a decent copy of RC's production of The Lady's Not For Burning. If there's any way to lobby some of the publishers to make a legal DVD copy, that'd be great... In the meantime, while I don't terribly like copyright violations, I still am inclined to get ahold of a good VHS tape, and transfer it to DVD. If anyone has a tape, please contact me (rmharman@auros.org). This is my absolute favorite play, and Chamberlain's performance was brilliant; it's a crying shame that nobody is out there offering to let me pay for a copy. Now I'm going to ramble for a while. I was sort of amused when I heard that Mr Chamberlain had "come out" -- as a young (25) man who's been quite openly bi for pretty much as long as I was aware that I had a sexuality at all, it's nice to see that my elders, especially ones I respect, are beginning to feel more comfortable in the new world that has been wrought, in part by their own courage in subtly changing mindsets through simply being tolerant role-models, even if they couldn't let people know why they believed in tolerance. As for that respect: Chamberlain is a figure I sort of hold in awe. My parents always liked his work, so I saw a lot of his movies (Three Musketeers, stuff like that) when I was quite young. I remember, rather vaguely (I was a fairly young kid at the time), my parents discussing, after returning home, some theatre-related event they'd gone to where there was a Q&A session with RC, and my father, somewhat theatrical himself, got up to the mic and said something to the effect of, "I have a bone to pick with you, Mr Chamberlain: I am a physician, and in your portrayal of Doctor Kildare, you never showed us all the awful paperwork and arguments with insurers and so on. The way you showed it, being a doctor is all glamor, and I feel that this was false advertising for the profession I invested years of training to enter!" Chamberlain apparently got a laugh out of that, and discussed some of the things he'd learned about the realities of the medical profession while playing that role, but had of course been unable to incorporate into the show... As a cat person myself (I just spent this morning working at a kitten adoption fair, and my two Household Gods are curled up asleep under my desk right now), I rather like the (perhaps apocryphal) story about how he delayed a shoot for a scene of something -- I think The Thorn Birds? -- because a kitten had fallen asleep in his lap. Lastly I take a certain pride in the fact that RC apparently studies the same martial art that I do. Grand Master Steven Hayes (though he was not a Grand Master at the time) was the fight coordinator for Shogun, and took on Chamberlain as a student... I studied under one of Shihan Hayes' other students, and have taken several seminars with Hayes over the years, both at my original dojo in Maryland, and at Hayes' personal dojo in Ohio... Amusingly, the way I learned about Chamberlain's involvement was that I happened to watch The Bourne Identity less than a month after having earned my black belt, and noticed that in one scene, he uses the same knife disarm that I had used in the Spontaneous Self-Defense portion of the test/demonstration. (One earn's a black-belt in private under the eye of one's sensei; the public "test" is more of a demo than a test.) I mentioned this to my sensei, and he replied, with much amusement, that indeed, Chamberlain would know that technique, because he too is a black-belt in our art. :-)

Post 167 CAREER/BOOK
Dear Richard, Several years ago, you replied to a letter with a lovely photo/letter. I had moved and they were destroyed, so I re-wrote-to my amazement, you sent yet another letter-all within a two-month time period. You were very gratious and thankful for my admiration of your work and you stated an actor appreciates that. Years later I wrote you while you performed in MY FAIR LADY on Broadway, and you sent me a signed Playbill-I still have that framed. I have purchased your book. You say you are brought to tears at book showings and are very touched by the public response. It doesn't matter what preference you have -it is part of who you are-what makes you a brilliant actor. I was 22 when I wrote you, I am now 41 and have a lovely husband, 3 year old Christian and 1 year old Zoe. Perhaps your honesty will make you feel you will bring more to your already outstanding portrayals, you will open up more, perhaps in your mind? In any event, I still have an album of yours, still admire your work and congratulate you on years of wisdom and courage. You have a gift. Now, how do I go about purchasing a painting? Oh, and your framed photo hangs in our den and it is the ONLY OTHER MAN my husband will allow me to display a photo of. He enjoys your work, too. WE LOVE YOU VERY, VERY MUCH! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. ENJOY YOUR LIFE TOGETHER AND I DON'T CARE, YOU ARE STILL THE SECOND MOST HANDSOME MAN I HAVE EVER SEEN! XOXOXOMEGGIE

Post 165 I'm in love with an "Image"
In the article from "The Advocate", Richard said that many women were in love with an "Image" and he didn't want to mess with that image by coming out. I realize that I am in love with the images that he created. He was so talented in portraying and becoming those characters that I have fallen so in love with! THAT is great acting! Bravo to you Richard! Thanks Darrin for posting those most recent articles. The interviews really allow the "true" Richard to shine through. And whether it's an "image" or "the man", I think we all love him AS HE IS, no matter what. Betty

I can remember you were my reality in Dr. Kildare not as a doctor but as a man... I was 9 you 27. but somehow I knew... Through the years we have met at parties and through mutual friends and in just passing... but you have always been their... I have never had the courage to come forward either and like you I never married and never have had that perfect relation in my life that you have found...I still have hope .I had to have the front of a a conservative individual that would never be able to show my true reality to the world...because of job and Friends in High places. I still see you in Honolulu occasionally and sometimes in New York but we are still worlds apart but I am so thankful that the love I share in my heart is like a brother to you in a world that God made for us not of our own doing... Congradulations and I hope to speak to you more about this at some point along the way... Even though our lifes have passed and our Physical appearence has altered our heart still shines... Keep the Love and Enjoy your Life... Tim

Post 162 Time For An Awakening
Time For An Awakening By Kazz Falcon. a poetic art dedicated to Richard Chamberlain. You probably know me quite well. I starred in numerous blockbuster movies in the 1960/70's. Of course, I was in a hit TV show in the 1980's. I had a pretty fan base. All women fancy yours truly. In the last few years, I led a comfortable life. I could less about my public image now. Most women saw me as a romantic man in my movies. I played the roles quite good. Even some proposed marriage in their letters. Stars still get those kind of letters. I wouldn't take those proposals seriously. I was already seeing someone at that time. I wouldn't dare to cheat at all. My special someone would have talk to the tabloids. You know I can't let that happen. My public image would be destroyed. Today, I don't give a damn about that image. Hollywood created it for the audience. They saw a bankable star in me. They would do anything to cover up the truth. They did the same thing with Rock Hudson. He was another prefect leading man for the movies. For all my fans, I was ready to face the truth. I was tired of hiding from everyone. There was nothing wrong with me. I just happened…happened to be different. "Different," you wondered. I wasn't ashamed of my life. It was a part of me. I embraced myself with the truth. The truth would set you free. As you get older, you would know what means the most to you. I found real love I could count on for the rest of my life. I would never give up the love at all. Being gay was so me; I don't want to give up my life.

Post 158 Shattered Love
At 57 (ok, 57 1/2), I've traversed having a huge crush on you to total admiration for the spiritual journey you have taken and person you've become. The energy healing you spoke of, did anyone ever call it Reiki? I'm a level II practitioner and it sounds like what "we" do. Your honesty and insight into what truth really is with us human beings spurred me onward toward my own inner discoveries. Peace and Love to you. Love and Light, Carolyn

Post 156 getting a grasp on my view of the world
Thank you and the L.A. Times journalist that addressed the issue of whatever label (in this case being homo/heterosexual) doesn't say anything about who you are. Such a gift of perception.

Post 153 Applause
Someone posted "Through the years, I suspected that you were gay, but that in no way detracted from your great talent and ability. " The person praised you, and seems utterly unaware that the bigotry of that comment is why gays must be silent or pay the price. I am not gay. How stupid to have to say that. But lest some homophobic decides that only gays would support you, I am saying it. It makes me sad we live in a society where someone's responsible sexuality is ANYONE'S business... where someone being gay is even in the same SENTENCE as words like 'detracting from talent". It makes me very sad. What makes me sick is that people are concerned about your being gay, but will stand and applaud a convicted pedophile who BRAGS about taking girls "much younger" than his 13 yr old victim. We make private lives that truly is no one's business our concern, and ignore criminal sickening pedophiles? Truly, its sad, but I understand your silence all these years. I am glad you have found happiness and glad you can speak up. thank you for a lifetime of rich memories, from Dr Kildare onward. May life give you as much as you have given. Debra

Message: Dear Darren, first of all, I would like to thank you again for this great website.:-)I'am really enjoying it. Can you tell me something about Richard's book? Will it be transleted in other languages? I mean, will it be published in other countries? 'Cause RC has so many fans in various countries, and not everybody can speak English.

Post 151 You Are A Gift
Dear Richard, I have loved you since I was a very young teenager in the 1980's when I first saw Shogun and The Thorn Birds. I wept with joy when I recently watched the 20th anniversary of The Thorn Birds. Ralph de Bricassart was your finest character and your finest acting. Your incredible talent has given me countless hours of happiness. You are a gracious and classy gentleman. When I saw you on Dateline ... the beloved face, the beautiful voice ... I melted all over again. Through the years, I suspected that you were gay, but that in no way detracted from your great talent and ability. However, I always admired and respected you precisely for neither confirming nor denying the rumors. It was inspiring to me that you simply lived life on your own terms, answering to no one else's preconceptions about you. Your silence/privacy always implied that sexual orientation truly was a non-issue. Why the need to go public now after all these years? The media are now focused solely on your orientation ... not on your acting or your work. Is that what you wanted for yourself? If going public is part of your own personal journey, then I, of course, respect your decision. However, in the spirit of complete honesty, I am a bit disappointed. I just do not understand your reasoning. Once again, I remain your devoted fan. All my love, Diana.
